Lowestoft

Lowestoft is the UK’s easternmost and second-most populous town in Suffolk county, with a population of over 70000.

Pleasurewood Hills

Pleasurewood Hill is a large family amusement park located in the north of the town, close to Corton Beach. It is mostly popular for its thrilling rides. Cannonball Express is one of its most famous roller coasters, opened in 1995. It goes up to the speed of 34 MPH and is the only Jumbo V model of rides designed by Anton Schwarzkopf.

Families also love the Sea Lion Splash Show, an ongoing display over the past 20 years. The Birds of Paradise experience is another popular attraction for everyone interested to see animals doing amazing things.

East Anglia Transport Museum

Established in 1965, East Anglia Transport Museum is an open-air museum in Carlton Calville and the only English museum that allows visitors to get on buses and trams. The main attractions of the museum are:

• The Tramway, which is an easily-manageable vintage tram, takes you on a ride through the museum street and along the woodland path to Hedley Grove.
• The Trolleybus Route showcases some old London trolleybuses dating as far back as 1521, with a route circulating around the museum.
• The East Suffolk Light Railway replicates the experience of riding in old light railways. It starts from the northern parts of the museum and ends near the trolleybus route.
• At Terminus Tearooms, visitors can treat themselves to a wide variety of drinks and snacks after going around the museum. At the Acacia store, visitors have the opportunity to purchase models, books, and a variety of gifts.

 

Africa Alive Zoological Reserve

Africa Alive Zoological Reserve is located around 2 miles from Lowestoft in Kessingland. It is home to various unique animals, including Kenyan Eagle owls and African lions. It is full of activities and experiences you can try with your family. 

At the Lion Experience, you come face-to-face with this majestic animal and will have around 45 minutes to learn everything from them. Also, at the Discovery Centre, you will be able to observe smaller mammals and reptiles. If you go hungry, there are plenty of eateries in the place you can try. For freshly-cooked meals, you can try the Glades, and for some snacks, you may go to Snack Shacks.

 

Transportation in Lowestoft 

Buses replaced the old tramway system in 1931 and are now one of the main public transport providers in and around the town. Operated by First Norfolk & Suffolk, they link different parts of the town to each other and the town’s surroundings, extending to Norwich and Great Yarmouth. 

Lowestoft Railway Station is the central station operating within the town and has three platforms. There are two routes, one of which takes you northwards to Norwich and the other to Ipswich in the south. 

The town also has a reliable cycling network due to its flat surface and small size. Many people cycle to work with routes linking different areas to the town centre.

For travelling by plane, the nearest airport to Lowestoft is located in Norwich. The international Norwich Airport was opened in 1968 and currently has flights to various European cities like Edinburgh and Manchester in the UK and Amsterdam in the Netherlands.
