MANILVA, Spain

The municipality of Manilva is located at the SW end of the province of Malaga, 97 km from the capital of Malaga and 35 km away. of Gibraltar.
With an extension of 35.30 km, it constitutes the meeting point between the Costa del Sol and British island - Gibraltar. Manilva has an approximate altitude of 128m. above sea level. The orography is configured as a series of mountains and hills that rise from the sea towards the interior, making it possible to simultaneously enjoy the green rural areas and the sea sports and it’s all touristic attractions.
Talking of attractions – Manilva has much to offer with it’s archaeological complex around the castle - Castillo de la Duquesa, the thermal baths, a necropolis and a large fish-salting factory with a market attached to it. Protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest, the ruins can be visited today and undoubtedly the most popular ‘asset’ is La Hedionda - the Roman baths built around a natural mineral spring where Julius Caesar himself is said to have cured his skin conditions.
The surroundings of the Guadiaro River and therefore the current border of Manilva with the province of Cádiz, many years ago has been the border of the Nazarite Kingdom of Granada
The well known old village of Casares that belongs to Manilva territory, was handed over in 1485 to the Christian troops, into the hands of the Duke of Cádiz.
Sugar cane cultivation and the vineyards are the authentic engines of Manilva's economy since centuries.
